President’s Letter
Dear Colleagues:
Welcome to the 23rd Annual Scientific Sessions! This year's theme, "Informing Health Policy through Nursing Science" focuses on the contributions of nursing science to health policy and dissemination and translation of nursing research at professional, community, and societal levels. There will be numerous learning and networking activities available for those with various levels of research experience.
The conference begins on Wednesday with Dr. Ada Sue Hinshaw discussing "Quest to Shape Health Policy through Nursing Science." Wednesday continues with a series of "how to" sessions that address grant review, working with the media, manuscript preparation, and activism. We are very pleased that NINR is running two grant writing workshops as key components of our meeting. In keeping with the themes of dissemination, translation, and health policy, we will start the day on Thursday with a plenary session presented by Dr. Mary Naylor on "The Transitional Care Model: Translating Research into Practice and Policy." Of course there will be numerous symposia, Research Interest Group Sessions and many podium and poster presentations. We invite you to attend these stimulating presentations and to share your ideas.
We also encourage you to participate in ENRS' Research Interest Groups (RIGs). The RIGs play a vital role in the growth of nursing science in focused areas, provide a forum for discussion of ideas, and foster the development of nurse scholars. RIGs form an integral part of ENRS and each draws their membership from the larger Society. ENRS members are eligible to affiliate with any, or all, RIGs. Representing major areas of nursing research, our RIGs offer a wealth of information and opportunities for sharing expertise and first-hand knowledge of the latest research trends. This year there will be two opportunities for networking with the RIGs: A buffet lunch on Thursday, and the traditional RIG breakfast on Friday morning. Please join us! For more information, there will be a table in the registration/exhibit area. If there is not a RIG that is of interest to you, we are always interested in developing new RIGs.
The ENRS business meeting will be held from 5:00 to 5:45 PM on Wednesday evening. We will provide updates on the many activities of ENRS and ways to become involved in this vigorous organization.
Many people contribute to the success of our conference. In particular, the Conference Planning Committee, chaired by ENRS President-Elect Dr. Susan Loeb, are to be congratulated for their excellent work in organizing this event. We are also very fortunate to have many sponsors. We thank: Columbia University School of Nursing; University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing; Yale University School of Nursing; Hartford Centers of Geriatric Nursing Excellence; Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins; New York University College of Nursing; The Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science; NYU Langone Medical Center; The Pennsylvania State University School of Nursing; University of Buffalo School of Nursing; University of Connecticut School of Nursing; University of Delaware School of Nursing; University of Massachusetts-Amherst School of Nursing; University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing; University of Rochester School of Nursing; and Villanova University College of Nursing for their generous support of the Scientific Sessions. Please visit the exhibit hall to learn of many products, services, and opportunities for education.
We hope that you have a rewarding and enjoyable time at Scientific Sessions. I look forward to meeting with you and hearing your ideas.
Sincerely yours,

Nancy S. Redeker, PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN President, Eastern Nursing Research Society
