18th Annual Scientific Sessions


“New Momentum for Nursing Research:
Multidisciplinary Alliances”

The conference was held in Philadelphia/Cherry Hill, PA

Over 400 nurse researchers and students attended the conference held in Philadelphia/Cherry Hill, PA. They participated in the multiple, informative sessions of pre-conferences, scientific sessions, expert panels, and stimulating distinguished speakers. The conference highlighted the challenges, opportunities, and rewards for nurses who work in multidisciplinary research and clinical environments. There was also time to acknowledge and celebrate the recent publication of the Nursing Research Supplement, “Translational Research for Quality Health Care Outcomes.” The Supplement, containing invited papers from last year’s conference, was edited by Drs. Suzanne Bakken and Dorothy Jones.

President Dorothy Jones opened the conference with a warm welcome and updated the members on ENRS’s accomplishments over the past year. This year’s conference featured many distinguished researchers from the region and beyond. Dr.Callista Roy delivered the Opening Plenary address, “21^st Century Knowledge Development and the Voice of Nursing” on Thursday evening. Dr. Afaf Meleis opened the general sessions with her opening keynote address “Expanding Nursing Scholarship Globally: Partnership, Policy, and Peace.”

Four morning preconference workshops were well attended followed by a special afternoon preconference workshop, “Accomplishments, Challenges, and Future Directions.” A BS/MS student poster session was again successful for the second year. Sponsored events such as University Nursing School receptions, the Deans and Directors Breakfast, a Doctoral Student session and Research Interest Groups (RIGS) meetings gave members an opportunity to discuss issues of personal and professional interest. A scholar panel of distinguished nurse scientists highlighting the success of multidisciplinary research closed the conference.
