This presentation is presented by two members of the Criminal Justice Trauma and Violence Research Interest Group. Their work focuses on the care of people with health conditions living in prison. People living in prison have complex and growing healthcare needs. When compared to their community-dwelling counterparts, older adults living in prison are more likely to experience chronic and life-limiting conditions. Many receive inadequate health care and symptom management, and they have limited access to clinicians. There are opportunities for people both living and working in prison to recognize and support people living in prison with chronic conditions. This presentation will discuss the role of correctional nurses and correctional officers in the care of incarcerated older adults. In addition, e-learning modules hold great potential for educating and providing resources for people who live and work in prison to enhance the care these individuals receive.
